Hello SeCan Members, Your SeCan Board of Directors met on February 6 and 7 in conjunction with the SeCan southern training event in Huatulco Mexico. This provided an excellent opportunity to interact with many SeCan members from across Canada, along with professional development sessions led by Dr. Jody Carrington. The Board also reviewed the audited financial results from 2024 with a $1.89 million surplus – of which the Board restricted $1.13 to be spent on future research activities. It was decided the SeCan Annual Meeting will be held virtually on Wednesday June 25 at 10:00 am eastern. Please mark your calendar. The Board also reviewed the 2024 Member Survey results. Thank you to everyone who responded at the fall business meetings or online. We had a great response rate – 17% increase in participation compared to 2022. The Board found the overall results very positive. They continue to reflect the sentiment that SeCan is helping members to succeed (96%) and remain independent seed businesses (94%). We saw improvements in protection of intellectual property, co-promotion, and members’ belief that SeCan has the varieties to meet their needs. You can view the overall results of the survey here. As always, we want to hear your comments or concerns. We take member input very seriously in determining the future direction and policies necessary to contribute to your success.
