REMINDER: New Variety Offers for Spring 2026

Hello Western SeCan Members,  

SeCan is pleased to offer you a great group of new products for this spring.

This is a reminder that the application deadline is February 1, 2026. 

AAC Rivers VB is an exciting new Midge Tolerant CWRS that has a great combination of short strong straw, high grain yield potential, and impressive disease resistance and should be a solid choice for all wheat producers in western Canada. AAC Westking will be the refuge variety for AAC Rivers VB. 

WPB Banff VB is a VERY high yielding awnletted special purpose Midge Tolerant wheat with short strong straw and a good disease resistance package. WPB Canmore will be the refuge variety in WPB Banff VB. If you like KWS Sparrow VB you will LOVE WPB Banff VB. 

WPB Canmore is a very high yielding awnletted special purpose wheat with very short strong straw and a good disease resistance package. WPB Canmore is an apically awnletted (short awned) semidwarf wheat that has a red kernel similar to Pasteur. 

FP2608 (still to be named) is a very high yielding, large seeded brown flax with good lodging tolerance and medium-late maturity. FP2608 should be one of the top yielding flax varieties in western Canada. It is especially well suited to the shorter season black and grey soil zones where it yielded on average 8% higher than CDC Glas.  

9820-1-H2-3 (yes, it will get a name 😊) is a very high-yielding small green lentil that is tolerant to imidazolinone herbicide. In the 2022-2023 Lentil Registration Recommendation Trials, it yielded 118% of small green lentil check variety, CDC Imvincible CL^® and 115% of the small red lentil check variety, CDC Maxim. 9820-1-H2-3 has a thicker seed making it more suited to dehulling.

Online Seed Application Process

• Sign in to My SeCan 

• Go to: Apply for Varieties

• Click on the Seed Application button 

• In the left-hand boxes:

• Crop Kind: XXX

• Variety: XXX

• Class: Breeder or Select

• In the center section fill in the quantity being applied for and the default is KG but it can be adjusted to MT as well. 140K seed units are only for soybean so don’t use that. 

• Click “Next Item”

• If you want to apply for both Breeder and Foundation you need to add the next pedigree, the same as above, and remember to click “Next Item” or it won’t add what you just entered.

• At least one option needs to be selected in the sales history section, but you can do more if you wish.

• Finally, put your name in the box and hit Submit. 😊

You should receive an email confirmation that the application has been submitted, and I’ll try to let you know I got it too. Please check your junk folder as the confirmation may go there.

Remember, apply by February 1.
