Hello SeCan Members,

Gradually more details are being made available about the AAFC cuts and station closures – although we lack important aspects in terms of timelines and impacted personnel.

SeCan is moving quickly to gain clarity on the impacts of the cuts and will help wherever possible to avoid disruptions to the flow of varieties and Breeder seed from key programs.

A huge thanks to Doug Miller and CSGA for convening an information sharing session last week and for publishing this statement that provides some excellent speaking points. We encourage you to contact your Member of Parliament about the critical importance of Canada’s plant breeding programs.

We are also launching a Member Investment Survey with Agri Studies later this week, so that we can better articulate the seed industry investment at risk – without a consistent flow of improved varieties.

Again, we hope you will participate in helping us tell this important story of investment, innovation, and what it means to your business and local community.

With thanks,

Jeff Reid
